MI Patent Pro Bono Project

As part of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act, President Obama signed into law this act supporting intellectual property law associations across the country to establish pro bono programs designed to assist financially under-resourced independent inventors and small businesses. In November, 2014 the Michigan Pro Bono Project was formed. This free workshop is an excellent opportunity for independent inventors and those interested in learning more about the patent system to discover what services the Michigan Patent Pro Bono Project has available.

  • Availability of free assistance in drafting and filing either patent or trademark applications through various Michigan law schools
  • Resources for inventors about the patent application process and how to file their own applications as pro se applicants (without legal representation)
This workshop is led by attorneys David Berry and Robert Mathis. Berry focuses on patent litigation and intellectual property law in the business sector. Mathis is Pro Bono Service Counsel for the State Bar of Michigan and staff administrator of the Patent Project.

Preregistration is required; deadline to register is Monday, September 14, 2015.
