South Haven’s Lake View Cemetery is one of the most scenic and interesting cemeteries in southwest Michigan. Many of our earliest pioneers and entrepreneurs are interred here and it is a treasure trove of history and information.
On Wednesday, October 15, the Historical Association of South Haven will host Gary Swain, president of the Friends of Kalamazoo Historic Cemeteries, who will present a program on Lake View Cemetery, focusing on the importance of maintenance, restoration and preservation.
Since retiring in 2010, Gary Swain has served on a number of boards in the Kalamazoo area. He was the chairman of the statue committee for the Kalamazoo Abraham Lincoln Institute and is past commander of the Department of Michigan, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Gary is a frequent lecturer on the Civil War, genealogy and cemetery preservation, and has devoted countless hours as a volunteer with historical and preservation groups.
The program will take place at 7:00P at the Hartman School headquarters, located at 355 Hubbard St, and is free and open to the public.
Please plan to join us for this informative presentation.
